Former MKFM CEO part of new team at Milton Keynes station 1055 The Point

Milton Keynes community radio station 1055 The Point will be under new management soon.

Darren Dorrington, former CEO of MKFM, and Matt Cadman, founder of Vibe 107.6 in Watford and Lite Radio in Surrey, will take over the reins from May.

Speaking to RadioToday, Darren expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity, stating: “Milton Keynes is one of those areas that’s lost most of its traditional local media. There’s an excellent opportunity for The Point to offer something different at a local level.”

Founded originally as Secklow Sounds in 2016, 1055 The Point underwent a rebranding in 2021, paying homage to an iconic building in Milton Keynes, home to the UK’s first multiplex cinema.

Matt Cadman, echoing Dorrington’s sentiments, emphasised the importance of the station’s mission, saying: “Darren has very much been the saviour of local radio in Milton Keynes, and I’m very much looking forward to working with him.”

The duo say they are determined to propel the station to new heights, ensuring it fulfils its key commitments before embarking on a full relaunch on regional DAB digital radio later this year.

The city currently has two community radio stations on FM, with MKFM playing hits from the 90s to today and The Point having a wider remit of music from the 60s to today.
