
The New York Festivals Radio Awards has announced its 2025 shortlist, highlighting excellence in radio, podcasts, and audio storytelling from around the world.
This year’s shortlisted entries feature a range of compelling productions, including several from the UK.
Among the UK productions recognised in the Entertainment category are “The Man Who Fell to Earth” by Bafflegab Productions, “U.Me: The Complete Musical” by Magnum Opus Broadcasting, and “Lonely No More” by Audiama Productions Limited.
Other notable UK/Ireland entries include “Invitation from PJ Harvey” by BBC 6 Music and “Chuck Berry in an Irish Field” by Ocean FM.
In the Documentary category, UK-based productions advancing include “Jeff Buckley Forever By Guy Pearce” by Zinc Media, “Shane MacGowan: The Old Main Drag” by Rich Power, and “Buried: The Last Witness” by Smoke Trail Productions Ltd.
The podcast “Claudia Lawrence: A Mother’s Story” by BBC Radio New York has also been shortlisted in the True Crime category.
UK representation is also seen in the Music Documentary category with “Stories from the New Silk Road: Space” by c60media Ltd. and “Shōgun Seisiún: Irish Music in Japan” by Pavel Barter.
Other notable international productions shortlisted include “The Menendez Brothers: The Official Companion Podcast” by Netflix, “The Big Take: The Human Egg Trade” by Bloomberg Podcasts, and “Amazing Sport Stories: The Black 14” by Whistledown Productions.
The shortlisted entries were selected by the New York Festivals Radio Awards Grand Jury, a panel of industry professionals who evaluated submissions based on production values, creativity, content presentation, direction, writing, and audience engagement.
The winners will be announced during the New York Festivals 2025 Storytellers Gala virtual event on May 22, 2025.
In addition to category winners, the event will also reveal the recipient of the National Press Club Award, which recognises outstanding work in news reporting, as well as the inaugural JusticeAid Award for excellence in social justice storytelling.
