Esports, planes and solar power at Radio TechCon

Three of this year’s first confirmed sessions for Radio TechCon will explore what the radio and audio industry can learn from aviation, esports and solar power.

The UK’s annual technical and engineering conference for the radio and audio sector takes place on Tuesday 25 November at IET London: Savoy Place, with the first details of its 2025 programme now revealed.

In “From cockpits to studios”, pilot James Taylor will draw parallels between airline safety and broadcast environments, explaining how aviation’s crew resource management systems could help radio teams manage stress and maintain safety when under pressure.

“Esports and your career” will see the British Forces Broadcasting Service technology team share their experience of staging a major esports event, discussing the transferable skills between broadcasting and competitive gaming, and how engineers can future-proof their careers.

The third announced session, “Solar power plus”, features engineers from West Africa outlining a BBC project that is moving transmission sites in Ghana to solar power. The talk will cover how renewable technology is applied in tropical regions and how it might be adapted for the UK’s climate.

Ann Charles from organisers TBC Media said Radio TechCon offers “something to discover, learn and share for anyone who loves technology and audio.”

Radio TechCon 2025 is supported by Broadcast Bionics, Arqiva, Lawo, IPE, RCS, Preco, CGI, Telos Alliance, the IET, Ferncast and Radioplayer.
