Sir Damon Buffini to step down from BBC board role
Sir Damon Buffini will step down as Deputy Chair of the BBC Board and Chair of the Commercial Board at the end of June.
He will leave on 30 June when his current term finishes, having joined the BBC in January 2022 as a non-executive director.
During his time in the role, BBC Commercial has reported record profits and delivered £400m in returns to the BBC in 24/25, with BBC Studios growing into a business worth more than £2bn.
BBC Chair Samir Shah thanked him for his contribution, saying: “I’m extremely grateful to Damon for the service, dedication and support he has given, both to me and to the BBC.
“Damon cares deeply about the BBC, the arts and ensuring we have a thriving and growing creative sector in the UK.
“Under his leadership, BBC Commercial has gone from strength to strength. BBC Studios has grown to become a £2bn+ business and is the UK’s most awarded producer.”
Samir added that the overall commercial performance had been “fundamental to providing sustainable, long-term support for the whole of the BBC, both now and in the future.”
The process to appoint a successor will now begin.
