Leanne Campbell joins BBC Radio Merseyside

Liverpool presenter Leanne Campbell will host a new Friday mid-morning programme on BBC Radio Merseyside from April.

Leanne will present the slot between 10am and 2pm each Friday from 10 April, joining the station’s daytime schedule following more than two decades in commercial radio.

She left Hits Radio/Radio City last year after 22 years at the station, where she had most recently co-hosted the Breakfast show with Scott Hughes then Joel Ross for a short time.

The new role at BBC Radio Merseyside comes after current mid-morning presenter Tony Snell chose to reduce his schedule to four days a week.

Leanne said her long relationship with listeners was central to her return to local radio. She said: “I love my audience. They’ve always supported me, and when you think about it, we’ve grown up together.

“We have partied together, we’ve settled down together, got married and had our kids together.”

Leanne added that she hoped to show listeners the station “is for everyone”.

Tony said he had encouraged Leanne to join the station for years. He said the only way she eventually agreed was if he “gave her one of my shows”.

BBC Radio Merseyside executive editor Ben Anderson said Leanne deserved her place on the line-up and would help the station continue its momentum.
