BHBN Radio adds hospital partner and request shows

A new hospital partnership and extra live request shows are extending BHBN Radio’s service across Birmingham.

The volunteer led station has added The Harborne Hospital, on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital campus, to the list of sites receiving its programming for patients and staff. Andy Caddick said: “We are delighted to welcome The Harborne Hospital into the BHBN family.”

BHBN Radio is also working with Birmingham City Council on a citywide outdoor advertising campaign across 27 BT street hubs in Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield.

The campaign is aimed at patients, visitors, staff and the wider community, while encouraging song requests and contributions and raising awareness of the free service for hospital patients and care home residents.

At the same time, the station has increased its live output with new Wednesday and Sunday request shows from Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick, part of Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. The programmes will let patients and visitors share messages and music with loved ones.

The expansion follows the loss of a significant part of BHBN Radio’s NHS funding last year. Andy said: “The past year tested us, but it also pushed us to be more creative and community focused.” The station says the new partnership, advertising support and added live programming are part of efforts to strengthen its future service.
