Tim Davie appointed to co-chair Creative Industries Council

Outgoing BBC director-general Tim Davie will help shape UK creative industry policy as the next co-chair of the Creative Industries Council.

He will join the council from 1st August, working alongside Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy and Business Secretary Peter Kyle, before becoming sole industry chair when Baroness Shriti Vadera steps down on 31 December.

The council brings together industry and government to represent the creative sector and support its development, including priorities such as innovation, investment, workforce and trade.

Tim replaces Sir Peter Bazalgette, who leaves the role at the end of July. Both he and Shriti have overseen the introduction of a sector plan as part of the government’s wider industrial strategy.

Lisa Nandy said Tim brings “a wealth of knowledge” and thanked the outgoing co-chairs for their contribution to the sector.

Tim said: “It is a privilege to be asked to Chair the Creative Industries Council and champion a sector that’s a world-class success story for the UK.”

He added that there is “a huge opportunity” for the sector to deliver economic growth and support jobs and skills across the country.

Tim has led the BBC since 2020 and previously held senior roles including chief executive of BBC Studios and director of audio and music.
