Cool FM leaves Kiltonga for City Quays studios

Cool FM, Downtown Radio and Downtown Country have begun broadcasting from Bauer Audio Northern Ireland’s new City Quays base.

The move brings to an end 50 years of broadcasting from Kiltonga in Newtownards, with Cool FM marking the change by taking its Breakfast Show out of the studio and onto the road.

Pete Snodden, Paulo Ross and Rebecca McKinney hosted the programme live from the Cool bus as it travelled from Kiltonga to Belfast, with listeners hearing updates from the journey and the station’s final farewell to its long standing home.

The arrival at City Quays marked the formal start of a new chapter for Bauer Audio Northern Ireland in Belfast city centre.

Stuart Robinson said: “After 50 years at Kiltonga, closing the door on our final broadcast there was bittersweet.”

Pete said the bus broadcast was “as chaotic as you’d imagine,” adding that arriving at City Quays with microphones still live felt like “the start of a new adventure”.

The new base will be home to Cool FM, Downtown Radio and Downtown Country and any future services offered by Bauer Media in Northern Ireland.
