Nottinghamshire station returns to run Edinburgh joke award

Takeover Radio will again run its Joke of the Fringe Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The Nottinghamshire youth station is returning to Edinburgh in partnership with the ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards, continuing its role broadcasting shows, interviews and festival coverage.

The award offers a £500.01 prize, with jokes nominated by members of the ISH judging panel from live performances across the Fringe.

A longlist will be revealed in week three, before staff and listeners help decide the winner ahead of the final announcement at the awards ceremony.

Takeover Radio 106.9FM, based in Ashfield, has broadcast from the festival for the past two years and previously introduced the award in 2025, when Jo Caulfield won. The station also ran a separate Joke of the Nottingham Comedy Festival later that year, won by Alex Mitchell.

Nick Mellors, a volunteer at the station, said: “We’re delighted to be back in Edinburgh again for the Takeover Radio 106.9/ISH Joke of the Fringe Award.”

He added the initiative helps showcase the station’s community and highlights opportunities for young people through arts and media.

The station broadcasts on 106.9FM locally and online, with plans to deliver further coverage from the Fringe this summer.
