WorldDAB releases global guide for DAB+ rollout

WorldDAB has published a new policy guide to help countries develop and expand DAB+ digital radio.

The “DAB+ Public Policy Toolbox” is designed for governments, regulators and industry leaders considering the rollout or growth of digital radio services.

The Toolbox was launched during a webinar edition of The Media Club hosted by Matt Deegan, alongside South 180 Research Director David Fernández Quijada and WorldDAB President Jacqueline Bierhorst.

It will also be presented at WorldDAB Automotive on 11 June in Frankfurt, focusing on policies linked to in-car DAB+ listening.

The report was commissioned by WorldDAB and produced by research company South 180 following a review of digital radio policies used across Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.

It sets out policy measures that have supported DAB+ growth, identifies areas where regulation has slowed digital migration and provides recommendations for future frameworks.

The guide also outlines the practical challenges faced by broadcasters, regulators, manufacturers and network operators during DAB+ deployment.

WorldDAB Project Director Bernie O’Neill said: “FM spectrum is saturated. Digital migration isn’t optional, it’s the only viable path to growth for radio.”

He added: “This Toolbox gives markets a proven playbook, built on real world experience from four continents.”
