Sparky will take over BBC Radio Nottingham’s Breakfast Show from Monday 6 July.
The presenter, known as one half of Jo and Sparky on Gem, real name Mark Colerangle, was announced as the station’s new breakfast host on air this morning.
Summaya Mughal, who has presented the programme for around 18 months covering for Verity Cowley’s maternity, revealed the change during her show.
Sparky has been heard on BBC Radio Nottingham regularly over the past year, presenting cover programmes for the station ahead of the permanent appointment.
He said: “I feel so unbelievably excited and privileged to taking the reins of the BBC Radio Nottingham breakfast show.”
Sparky added that he wanted to be “a voice that speaks up for Nottinghamshire” and showcase the county’s people, places and local stories.
Sophie Cook, Executive Editor at BBC Radio Nottingham, said the new programme would provide a locally focused start to the day, with “real stories and the issues that matter most to our communities”.
She also thanked Summaya Mughal, who has hosted Breakfast on an interim basis, for supporting the programme during the transition.
Verity Cowley returned in March but to the mid-morning show.
