Lucy Porter and Ian Smith join Radio 4 for comedy

Lucy Porter and Ian Smith will front new topical comedy series on BBC Radio 4 this summer.

Current-ish begins in the Friday Night Comedy slot from Friday 24 July, with Lucy joined by three comedian guests each week to discuss the stories attracting attention. The three-part series will be recorded in London and Edinburgh and will also be available on BBC Sounds.

Lucy said: “News insists on happening even in the warmer months, when we’ve all got better things to do.”

The People Have Spoken will follow on 14th August, with Ian hosting three editions built around the week’s questions and contributions from a live audience. Ian and a group of comedian guests will look at how the headlines affect people’s lives.

Ian said: “With a Northerner possibly about to become Prime Minister it only feels right that I take over the airwaves this summer for three weeks to find the funny in amongst the chaos of UK politics.”

Julia McKenzie, Comedy Commissioner for BBC Radio 4, said the programmes would bring alternative perspectives on the week’s stories, drawing on major headlines and audience views.

Current-ish is produced by Mighty Bunny. The People Have Spoken is produced by BBC Studios Audio.
