The East Hampshire small-scale DAB multiplex has expanded its coverage by adding a third transmitter near Alton.
This new transmitter increases the network’s reach by 76 percent, now covering 66,995 people according to Ofcom.
The multiplex carries eleven services, including Shine Radio from Petersfield, Wey Valley Radio from Alton, Radio Victory, V2 Radio, Angel Radio and Angel Gold.
East Hampshire DAB was established to bring digital radio to communities where reception has been limited by the area’s challenging landscape.
The service now covers audiences in and around Petersfield, Liphook, Alton and Bordon, and its signal extends along the A3 from the Hindhead Tunnel to Butser Hill.
This expansion helps close the reception gap between South Coast multiplexes and those serving London and Surrey.
The network was designed by small-scale DAB specialist Ash Elford, who said the addition of the Alton transmitter is a positive step for listeners, especially those of Wey Valley Radio, who can now access their local station on DAB.
Ash also noted there is still capacity for more services to join the multiplex and reach listeners across East Hampshire.
