BBC Radio 6 Music will give the world premiere of Pet Shop Boys’ newly revised A man from the future this October.
The work explores the life and legacy of mathematician and cryptanalyst Alan Turing, and was created with Turing’s biographer, Professor Andrew Hodges.
Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe first performed the piece at the BBC Proms in 2014, accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Singers.
The new version features updated text and music. The 2026 edition will air on Sunday 4th October in Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone between 8pm and 10pm.
Stuart will also speak with Neil, Chris and Andrew about the creative process and their approach to combining electronic and orchestral music.
Later that evening, BBC Radio 3 will broadcast the piece as part of Unclassified from 11.30pm to 12.30am.
Both broadcasts will be available on BBC Sounds for 30 days after transmission.
Neil and Chris said their aim was to create a musical memorial to Alan Turing, recognising his contributions and the challenges he faced for his sexuality.
Lorna Clarke, BBC Director of Music, described the work as an ambitious and moving tribute to Turing’s legacy.
