South Yorkshire Radio has launched this week, bringing together three local radio services under one station.
The new service combines Doncaster & Rotherham Radio and Barnsley Radio with a new DAB service covering Sheffield, bringing the three areas together as South Yorkshire Radio.
The station is broadcasting from 57 Media’s studios in Doncaster, with presenters from the individual stations forming the new line-up.
Stewart Nicholson presents Breakfast, while Matt Foister hosts Teatime, with Nick Foster, Leighton Morris and Kev Wilson also joining the schedule alongside weekend specials.
It comes six years after the launch of Doncaster & Rotherham Radio and one year after Barnsley Radio began broadcasting.
The company says the decision to bring the services together follows the crossover it has seen between listeners across the towns.
Programme Director Stewart Nicholson said: “We’ve seen so much cross over between the towns over the past 6 years so this was the natural next step.”
He added that the wider DAB coverage means the station is now “the only local station for all of South Yorkshire”.
Co-owner Chris Holden said there had been “a really positive response from companies in South Yorkshire who have jumped on board”, adding that the team is excited for the next phase.
