BBC technical producers will reveal how the Proms travels from the Royal Albert Hall to audiences at home.
Matilda Macari and Joe Linehan will discuss the broadcast process at the IPS Pro Audio Show in London, from rigging the venue and selecting stage microphones to the outside broadcast operation and final transmission.
Matilda began her career as an Apprentice Sound Engineer with BBC Radio 4 and the World Service. She has since worked across classical and popular music, including Glastonbury, royal occasions, Maida Vale sessions and the BBC Proms.
Joe is a Technical Producer for BBC Radio Outside Broadcasts, working across the Proms, Choral Evensong, Radio 4 outside broadcasts and music festivals around the UK.
Sound Recordist Ellie Williams and Sound Editor Jonny Crew will also present a session examining how production and post production teams can work together on natural history programmes.
Their collaboration has included recording for Apple TV’s Earthsounds and recent work on BBC’s Blue Planet III. The session will consider how choices made during field recording can influence the completed soundtrack.
IPS Pro Audio Show coordinator Ian Sands said: “From capturing sound in some of the most challenging natural history environments to broadcasting live music from the Royal Albert Hall, these sessions give visitors a chance to hear directly from the people doing the work and understand the decisions behind what audiences eventually hear.”
More than 40 exhibitor pitches have been confirmed, representing over 100 professional audio brands. Exhibitors include Broadcast Bionics, Calrec Audio, Sennheiser, Sound Devices, Solid State Logic, DPA Microphones and Schoeps.
The IPS Pro Audio Show takes place at London South Bank University on Saturday 10 October from 11am until 5pm. Further talks will be announced before the event.
