Boom Rock to close as Boom Radio gets £1m push

Boom Rock will close at the end of September as Boom Radio invests further in its main station.

The decision comes alongside a £1m marketing campaign for Boom Radio, including a new television advert made from photographs sent in by listeners.

Boom says many Boom Rock presenters and strands of programming will continue elsewhere within the group, while much of its music will be played on the main station. Boom Light will continue.

The campaign advert uses eight photographs selected from hundreds submitted by listeners after presenters asked for pictures from their youth in the 1960s and 70s. Production house Koala TV used AI to turn the images into short video clips for the 30-second advert, which is set to The Love Affair’s ‘Bringing on Back the Good Times’.

Phil Riley, Boom Radio’s CEO, said: “We hope that by sharing those images and memories, combined with a compelling soundtrack, we can entice new listeners of our age to come and sample Boom Radio.”

The £1m investment covers production and advertising across television and social media. The advert is due to run on ITV1, C5 and Sky from November, with teasers planned for Facebook next month.
