Cornwall’s Rewind Radio is marking five years on air with a special day of programming and the launch of a second station.
The station will celebrate its fifth birthday on Wednesday 7 October, looking back at memorable moments from its first five years, with contributions from people involved in its early days.
Founded by Managing Director Richard Woods and Shaun Ford in June 2021, the station began broadcasting that October from a small garden office, with Chris Williams joining shortly afterwards alongside a former business partner.
Originally known as Rewind Radio, it later adopted the Cornwall’s Rewind Radio name and moved into purpose-built studios at the Gateway Business Centre in Redruth.
The station says it now employs more than 50 people across sales, programming, presenting and production, supported by volunteers who help with events throughout Cornwall.
Its community activities have included raising more than £50,000 for local charities, hosting awards ceremonies, organising five baby shows for the NHS and helping to rehome more than 500 animals through the Cornwall branch of the RSPCA.
Richard has also undertaken several fundraising challenges, including a 26.2-hour Radiothon in 2023, a 48-hour broadcast in 2024 and a seven-day journey to Italy with Shaun, Jamie Bills and Roy Jackson in 2025.
Earlier this year, the station supported residents affected by Storm Goretti, including an elderly woman who was trapped in her home.
Richard said: “For five years we have stood by our core values and our ethos: to be a local radio station serving the county we love and live in.”
The anniversary also comes as the station prepares to launch Rewind Radio Retro in October, providing a second service dedicated to music from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
