Rachel Jupp to take charge of BBC News


Rachel Jupp is taking over as Director, BBC News and Current Affairs this month.

Rachel moves from her current position as Director, BBC News Documentaries and Long Form Journalism, following a competitive recruitment process, and will join the BBC’s Executive Committee on a salary of £400,000.

She will be responsible for a team of 4,500 people, with the BBC’s news operation broadcasting in more than 40 languages.

Rachel said: “I’m honoured to be asked to lead BBC News. I want to champion our vital, independent and impartial journalism, deepen the trust people have in the BBC and meet our audiences wherever they are.”

BBC Director General Matt Brittin thanked Jonathan for his leadership over the past eleven months, confirming that he will resume his positions as Deputy Director of News and BBC News Global Director.

Matt said: “She brings a clarity of vision for the future, and the determined, collaborative approach needed to strengthen BBC News.”

Rachel joined the BBC in 2013 after nine years at ITN, where her work included serving as Head of Home News at Channel 4 News.

Her previous BBC positions include Editor of Panorama, Deputy Editor of Newsnight and Editorial Executive for BBC Content. Over the past three years, she has developed and led the BBC’s approach to AI while based in the US.
