Parr swaps Newcastle for Cumbria

BBC Radio Newcastle breakfast presenter Mike Parr is heading home to take over the breakfast show on BBC Radio Cumbria.

Mike will replace Gordon Swindlehurst, who has hosted the show for the last two and a half years.
Staff in Carlisle and Newcastle were told the news yesterday in a memo, which was later leaked to a local [link=http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/1.510619]newspaper[/link].
The memo says: "As many of you will know Mike is a Radio Cumbria ‘old boy’ and currently the multi-award winning presenter of the Radio Newcastle breakfast show. Mike is very keen to ‘come home’ and return to his native Cumbria as he still has family living in Seascale.
"When Gordon took over breakfast we always talked about a three-year timeframe – and amazingly we’re nearly there. All formats need to evolve continually for us to remain competitive. Gordon has led the breakfast show through a significant period of change and has delivered everything asked of him."
BBC Radio Cumbria’s managing editor Nigel Dyson told the newspaper they will look for other work within the station for Mike, after the changes on July 6th.
