Buckley takes charge of Signal

UTV Radio has appointed Central Radio's Chris Buckley as programme controller of Signal 1 and Signal 2.

Chris, who joined the group in 2006 at Peak FM, most recently launched Central Radio in Preston as programme controller at Central FM. He will make the move to Stoke-on-Trent on Monday 15th June.
Speaking of his appointment, chris said: “Launching Central was a big challenge, but one I have relished. The station, though young, is already in great shape and I’m really please by the way the station and team has developed these past six months.
“However, the chance to work at Signal was too bigger a job to turn down. The stations have so much heritage and goodwill in and around Stoke, but have suffered a dip in form of late. I’m looking forward to building a team that helps the stations deliver the audiences they want and deserve.”
Lisa Hughes, Signal 1, station director, said: “Chris brings with him a track record of success. His skill as a programme controller has been recognised both by his colleagues in the UTV Radio group and by his peers within the radio industry and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Buckley’s radio career began at Manchester’s Piccadilly Radio in the 1980’s. Since then he has been head of music at Galaxy Manchester, head of presentation for the Heart Digital Network as well as launching Dee 106.3 in Chester.
Whilst at Peak FM Buckley was named UTV Radio programmer of the year in 2007 and last year he was named the North and Northeast programmer of the year in the Xtrax British Radio Awards.
