Wave team make it to the top

The Wave 105 Cash for Kids team have made it to the summit of the highest point in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.

The team, led by Wave 105’s Managing Director, Martin Ball and mountaineer Rhys Jones, raised a total of £11,000 so far for Wave 105’s Cash for Kids, specifically for the Jenna’s Dream campaign.
The team’s 13 day journey started with a climb up little Meru to ensure the climbers could acclimatise to the environment and to give them the chance to take in the incredible scenery. They then embarked on a seven-day climb to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro which stands at around 20,000 feet above sea level.
Rhys, the youngest mountaineer to have climbed the world’s seven summits, said: “As soon as we arrived in Tanzania we started our climb up little Meru and it was evident that some of the team were surprised at how tough it was, however people quickly adjusted. I was so proud of the team for their amazing achievement as everyone put so much energy and enthusiasm into the climb and it was such an emotional moment when we got to the top of Kilimanjaro.
"We have had a lot of support from Wave 105 listeners, advertisers and local businesses from across the whole of the south, which is great.”
