Denise: Vaughan ‘blocked me’

Former Capital FM breakfast co-host Denise Van Outen says she hasn't spoken to Johnny Vaughan since leaving the station almost three years ago.

The partnership only lasted for six months in 2008 and Denise says Vaughan 'sort of blocked' her from talking to him after she left.

In an interview earlier on 5 Live's Richard Bacon show, Denise said she thought Johnny never wanted her as co-host in the first place. "He wasn’t happy that I joined in the first place," she said. "He made it quite clear. He was used to doing the show on his own so I felt a little bit uncomfortable being there. Of course now the show has changed completely and Lisa I think is absolutely lovely and great and it works brilliantly. I think it was just taking him some time to get used to the fact that there was somebody else in the mix and it wasn’t just him."

Johnny and Denise were reunited in February 2008 with Capital hoping to recreate the success they shared as on-screen partners at the Big Breakfast in the late 90s.

But after six months [link=https://radiotoday.co.uk/news.php?extend.3672]Denise left[/link], blaming the early starts for wanting to end her contract early.

Of them not having been in touch with each other since, she said today: "It's a shame because we were really good friends. It was a really difficult situation – it wasn’t a comfortable environment to be in. I did try and speak to him after I left but he sort of blocked me. It’s a shame but things happen and change you never know hopefully one day it’ll all sort itself out."
