Anita Anand takes Kuenssberg’s 5 Live role

Anita Anand has been announced as Sam Walker’s replacement co-presenter on the new BBC Radio 5 Live Sunday morning show which starts this week.

Sam was due to host the ‘Double Take’ programme with BBC political correspondent Laura Kuenssberg who recently announced she was leaving the corporation to become Business Editor at ITV News.

Anita has previously presented 5 Live’s late show and also spent three years on Drive with Peter Allen before going on maternity leave last year. She has also been a regular presenter on BBC Two political show The Daily Politics.

We’re told ‘Double Take’, which will air in the 9.30-11am Sunday slot, will have a fresh look at the big stories of the previous week and anticipate the coming week’s stories with big guests and interrogate what lies behind the headlines.

Sam is a regular presenter on BBC Radio Manchester as well as doing the weekday afternoon show on Manchester commercial station Key 103.

Radio 5 Live Controller Adrian Van Klaveren said: “In Sam and Anita I think we have a great blend. Anita is a powerful and authoritative voice in politics and news and I think she will be the ideal complement to Sam who is a really exciting new talent to bring to Radio 5 live.”
