Georgia Kain - Content Solutions Project Manager - Heart Berkshire

I am currently a Content Solutions Project Manager at Heart Berkshire. I project manage sponsorships, promotions and digital campaigns. My favourite part of the job is coming up with promotion mechanics and content. I absolutely love coming up with new ideas and hearing them on air! I also have experience in video production, writing articles and audio editing.

Working in radio has always been my passion and I would love to continue to work in the industry. I have always wanted to work in programming and so I am looking for opportunities as a producer or production assistant. However, if a sponsorship/promotion role came up then I would also be very interested.

Please click on the below links to see my previous experience and audio from campaigns I’ve worked on.

More Info:

Radio has always been my passion and I would love to continue my career in radio. My goal has always been to become a radio producer however I have skills in other aspects of the business. I have various experience in the production world, I have come up with content for Global Radio which include competition mechanics which I absolutely love. Presenting my own radio show has given me experience as I would produce my own show on The Mix Radio. I have also worked in television including Big Brother as a post-production assistant which gave me experience in a live studio environment.

I have a degree in Creative Writing and Media Production where I got experience in various different aspects of the media. This ranged from writing scripts, articles, creating documentaries, films and even working at ITV News!

I have worked at Global for over three years in Bristol and Reading. I am currently a Content Solutions Project Manager, working across all brands including Heart, Smooth, Capital, Radio X, LBC and Classic FM. In my role I project manage all radio sponsorships, promotions and digital campaigns.

When project managing radio sponsorships, I often have meetings/phone calls/email exchanges with clients to discuss their sponsorship tag schedule and what areas of the business they want to advertise. I will then speak to our radio producer who will write the tags, get them voiced and produced. I’m very interested in this side of things, as I love to write and edit audio. Recently I have been helping the radio producer write and produce the sponsorship tags. Some of which have been put on Heart Berkshire.

The promotion side of my job is the part I enjoy most. I thrive in idea creation for promotion mechanics which go across Heart Breakfast and Heart Drive. We brainstorm ideas with the programming team and then take it to the client. I will attach an audio example to this email which show my ideas being put into action. One of my favourite ideas was for Veg Fest UK. We played songs which had misheard lyrics, they all sounded like a fruit or vegetable! Listeners had to guess which fruit or vegetable it sounded like. I have also written promotional trails and have worked with our managing editor to perfect them.

I have also project managed events, which I have really enjoyed. The event that I am most proud of was for Bristol Shopping Quarter, which I also came up with. We ran a promotion called ‘Unlock the Box’. I worked with a company called ‘The Clear Idea’ and hired a large perspex box which I filled with £5,000 worth of prizes. Listeners and the public had to enter various competitions to win a code to unlock the box. All of the code winners had to come to the main event, put their code in the box, and if it was correct they won the whole lot! This promotion was very complex as there were various entry points. These were on the Heart breakfast show, Heart drive show, Heart website and a text entry on the box.

The digital products that I project manage range from the following: social media management, website design, homepage takeovers, online display adverts/video, DAX, solus emails, newsletter pods and newsletter banners. I work very closely with clients about the wording and design of everything that goes out to our listeners. I have also been trained to design online display adverts on Local Stars which I really enjoy.

I also worked at the Capital Jingle Bell Ball in the artist liaison team looking after Taylor Swift, which was very exciting! Previously I worked as a Marketing Executive at a company called Tinc, who make quirky stationary. I used to write and send out e-shots to all of the mailing list (20,000+), wrote social media posts and created video content for their YouTube channel. I also organised press and influencer evenings when a new shop opened. I really enjoyed running Tinc’s social media accounts and worked across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube. It was great to create new content every day and interact with their followers.

Here is an example of a video I created for the Heart Bristol breakfast show for a ‘win a wedding’ promotion. We posted this video on our Heart Facebook page which I filmed and edited.

If you have any further questions, please let me know. I would love to hear from you soon when a role comes up that you think might be relevant.

Simon Blake - Engineer - Global South West

I’m a vastly experienced engineer who’s worked in the radio industry since 1982, first for the BBC for 9 years both at Broadcasting House in London and then as a local radio engineer and, for the last 27 years, in commercial radio, during which time I’ve encountered just about every situation you can imagine, both technical and non-technical. I’ve solved no end of problems, often with incredibly short deadlines, and come out smiling at the other end. I’ve built a couple of radio stations, re-engineered one to make it fit to become the UK’s first regional radio station – and, it looks like I’m going to end up dismantling a couple too thanks to Global’s recent announcement.

I’ve written software in a variety of languages – Basic, Visual Basic, Python and, more recently C and Swift. I reverse engineered Global’s Raspberry Pi-based signage system after its developer lost interest in it, and later left the company. Without this work, it would have suffered an early death, since it could only run on the original Raspberry Pi and none of its successors. That’s been an ongoing project as newer Raspberry Pis have been released over the years. I also wrote the original version of Global’s RDS messaging application, which still bears the name I gave it of Pie and Tart (explanation on request!). I’ve written yet another studio clock program (now in use at various community stations) and a transmission control program (also in use at some community stations)

I’ve demonstrated technical skills and managerial ability through some testing times. I’d rather not give up now!

Andy Vogel - Engineer - Global Essex

I’m Andy Vogel, 25 and the Broadcast Engineer for Global’s Essex broadcast centre, home to Heart and Smooth Essex.

As part of the role I also provide support for Heart Hertfordshire on a monthly basis and I am part of a 24/7 on call rota with other members of the south region engineering team who in turn monitor each other’s stations.

When all the changes take place will become available and would very much like to stay working within the industry as I’m sure you know its a lovely industry to work within.

Bio:

I attended the BSc Audio Recording and Production programme at the University of Hertfordshire and on completion gained a first class honours degree being awarded with the highest classification grade average in the class of 2018. There I expanded my skills within Audio Recording & Editing, Audio Networking, Live to Air Broadcast, Music Composition, Programming, Live Sound, Location Recording and Studio Technology.

During the first year at the University of Hertfordshire, I became the Music Manager of the two on-site radio stations Crush Radio and Crush Underground (Now Trident Media Radio.) During this time I reviewed audio and music content for them both which included liaising with PR companies and unsigned artists. At the end of the year, I was nominated and won the best newcomer at the Trident Media Awards 2016.

Also in 2016, whilst still studying, I was invited to attend an airing of BBC Introducing with Gareth Lloyd on BBC Three Counties Radio. At the end of the show I was invited back to assist with social media and as the months went on this changed to helping produce a live music segment of the show. This involved myself setting up and engineering artists as they played live on air.

Since this I have worked on a freelance basis for the BBC as a Broadcast Assistant on shows such as the Regional Show with Justin Dealey and Edward Adoo Covers The John Leech Soul Show both broadcasting across the east on BBC Radio Northampton, BBC Radio Kent, BBC Radio Norfolk, BBC Radio Suffolk, BBC Essex, BBC Radio Cambridge and BBC Three Counties Radio.

As of June of 2018 I was hired by Global Radio as a Broadcast Engineer at its Essex based broadcast centre, home to Heart and Smooth Essex. In addition to this I provide monthly support for Heart Hertfordshire and am part of an on-call rota with other engineers within the south region. I also provide regular engineering cover at Global’s Leicester Square HQ home to the Capital, Heart, Smooth Radio, Gold, Classic FM, LBC and Radio X brands having worked on major events and outside broadcasts for shows such as Capitals Jingle Bell Ball, The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X and Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp.
