New web features for Virgin

National broadcaster Virgin Radio have this week added interactive features to their online media player, meaning listeners can access videos and music downloads. They'll also be able to buy gig tickets and CDs as part of the web listening experience.

Virgin says its 500,000 online listeners will now get a "richer multi-media experience" from their internet radio player. There will also be more information about acts whose music is playing at the time.

It means more advertising opportunities too – the first to use it is Sony Ericsson who are promoting their new Walkman mobile phones on the Virgin Radio Player.

James Cridland, Virgin Radio's Director of Digital Media, told RadioToday.co.uk that it was the biggest change to the station's online listening in two years. "The new player brings together all of our great multi-media content so that users can easily access and experience it in one place," he said. "We're delighted to have Sony Ericsson on board as our first brand partner on the back of its successful multi-media campaign last year."

The new player is compatible across PC, Mac and Linux operating systems – check it out for yourself [link=http://www.virginradio.co.uk]here[/link].
