Ralph not interested in Emap

Chief Executive of GCap Media Ralph Bernard has been quoted in the Telegraph today as having no intention of merging his empire with the radio division of Emap. His comments come after The Times reported a conversation took place six months ago with ex-Emap boss Tom Moloney.

'We never say 'never', obviously, but we've got plenty on our plate and we don't want to get into merger discussions just when we're getting things right,'' he said in the newspaper today.

The original large-scale industry merger between GWR and Capital was a great example of how not to merge two radio groups. Whilst further consolidation is expected, industry experts predict any more activity will take place later rather than sooner.

Meanwhile all eyes are on Chrysalis to see what happens if the group is sold to investors, or on who will buy Virgin Radio from SMG.
