Blackburn faces the chop

Speculation's mounting as to who'll get the breakfast and drive jobs on the new GCap Media AM network, following the merger of the Classic Gold and Capital Gold brands. RadioToday.co.uk has been inundated with tip offs and suggestions after it was revealed that the new combined station would be networked, all but for a voicetracked local show in the middle of the day. It is understood that the new line-up will go on air next month.

All the talk is that David Jensen will move from mid-mornings on Capital Gold to breakfast on the new station, and that current Capital Gold Manchester breakfast jock Mike Sweeney will host the new networked Drive show. RadioToday.co.uk understands that Sam Hughes will swap from lates to evenings and current Capital Gold drivetime man Paul Coyte will be on weekend breakfast.

It seems the Classic Gold presenters will be the main losers – including Tony Blackburn who has no place in the new schedule. The local Classic Gold jocks are understood to have been given first refusal to voicetrack the 12-4 afternoon show, on a fraction of the money they're currently getting.

A spokeswoman for GCap Media today told RadioToday.co.uk that she was unable to confirm rumour that Kid Jensen and Mike Sweeney would be the new breakfast and drive presenters. "We are going to announce the full line-up for the classic hits network altogether", she added.
