Richard Branson and Global Radio boss Charles Allen could launch a takeover bid for Virgin Radio, according to a report this weekend. The two men have held talks about a plan that would see current owner SMG spin off the station into a new private company, with Branson, Allen and SMG being main shareholders.
No official comments have been made — and the report seems to be based on speculation. When asked about the possibility, Allen told the Observer: “I am bound by confidentiality agreements.”
Virgin Radio owners SMG confirmed last week they have received offers for the station, but did not comment on where the approaches have come from.
