The studios and presenters of Bath FM are moving to out of the area in which they will broadcast to, RadioToday.co.uk can reveal. A co-location request to house the station at Brunel FM has been agreed by Ofcom, after much consideration.
The request by bosses at The Local Radio Company is seen as an extreme one to Ofcom, who have agreed this co-location because the news and sales team would still be based in Bath – some 30+ miles away from the new studio location. Brunel FM currently has three spare studios at Wooton Bassett, which would be made available for day-to-day programming of Bath FM.
Ofcom’s published criteria taken into account when considering co-location requests centre on the size of station, the financial implications, distance between stations and cultural affinity. It was felt by the regulator that the history of the station and its financial performance was a very important factor here, and confidential information has been made available to Ofcom in this regard.
No programming changes will be made to either station as a result of the move.
