Radio Leeds loses United rights

Leeds United's agreement with BBC Radio Leeds for full match commentary will come to an end this season – and will not be renewed. Instead, digital station Yorkshire Radio, which broadcasts on DAB from the club, will be the only station to provide home and away coverage from the start of the 2008/2009 season.

BBC Radio Leeds has broadcast commentary from Leeds United for most of its 40 year history. This bold move will mean commentary will not be available to fans via FM or AM for the first time.
Of the new deal, Yorkshire Radio station director Ben Fry said: "This is a big step forward for Digital Radio in Yorkshire and for Yorkshire Radio. Having covered the club for the last two seasons we have now got a first class team in place and a product we feel can deliver the standard of coverage Leeds fans deserve."
