Northsound appoints new PD

Northsound Radio has appointed Gary Muircroft as its new Programme Director.

Gary will be responsible for the delivery of content across Northsound 1 and 2, taking over from Chris Thomson who has been at the station for 11 years.

Currently the Programme Controller for Central FM and Dundee’s Wave 102, Gary starts his new position on August 9th. He has a wealth of experience in Scottish radio having worked in various roles within the sector for the last 14 years.

Gary said: “I am looking forward to working with the very talented team at Northsound Radio. The radio station is number one in the market place and I am eager to build on this to ensure it remains the number one choice for listeners in the North-East of Scotland.

“The challenges ahead are the same as any other programme director in radio; to get the very best out of the programming team, a commitment to deliver great on-air content and to ensure that the radio station reflects the lives of the people who live in the North-East.

“I hope to bring all my radio experience to the Northsound Radio table. In the first instance, I have a real passion for delivering focused local radio. I am also keen to continue the great work of Chris Thomson and I appreciate fully what he has brought to the job over the years.”

Northsound’s Managing Director, Cathy Kirk, added: “Gary has a wealth of experience in radio and comes highly recommended. He has worked as a presenter at a number of our stations including Northsound, Tay, Clyde and Moray Firth, and is also commercially aware.

“I am confident that Gary’s skill set will be a real compliment to our talented programming team and as PD he will work closely within our successful station team to help grow the business further.”
