Aled for Radio 2 early show

Aled Jones is taking over from Lynn Parsons as the stand-in presenter on BBC Radio 2's early breakfast slot.

The programme becomes just 90 minutes long from next week, with Chris Evans starting his breakfast show half an hour earlier at 6.30am.

Aled will look after the 5am-6.30am slot on weekdays until the end of October when his UK tour in his singing day job kicks off.

There was speculation that the BBC would use the departure of cover jock Parsons to Smooth Radio to reduce the number of presenters and extend the two overnight shows – presented by Janice Long and Alex Lester – instead.

For the last 4 years, Aled Jones has presented the 6-9am Good Morning Sunday on Radio 2 as well as covering for Sarah Kennedy and Ken Bruce. He also does an hour-long interview style programme on BBC Radio Wales which goes out on Sunday lunchtime. In the latest series guests will include Sir Terry Wogan on a show due to air in December.

Aled's [link=http://www.aledjones.co.uk]official website[/link] also reports that he'll be standing in for Chris Evans on Radio 2 breakfast for the week between Christmas and New Year, during which time he'll celebrate his 40th birthday.
