Radio wins 9 Media Week awards

Commercial radio has picked up nine prizes at this year's Media Week Awards, with the RAB getting gold and silver in the same category.

Global Radio picked up the main Sales Team of the Year prize, while there were three awards for talkSPORT.

The Radio Advertising Bureau picked up both the Gold and Silver awards for Best Research Initiative. "Radio: the online multiplier", a study which generates metrics for radio that is easily comparable to online, scooped the Gold prize, while "RadioGauge", research providing radio advertisers with evidence of the impact of their ads, was awarded Silver.

As well as Sales Team of the Year, Global picked up the Silver for Media Initiative of the Year. Paul Davies, director of marketing communications at Microsoft, said: "Their positive, can-do attitude will see us coming back to Global Radio again and again."

UTV's talkSPORT walked away with two Silvers – for Sales Pitch over £1m and under £250k – and a Bronze for Media Brand of the Year.

Bauer Media won Silver in the Sales Pitch £250k – £1m category and Absolute Radio took Bronze for Sales Pitch under £250k.

Simon Redican, Managing Director of the RAB, said: "“With record audiences, resurgent revenues and unprecedented industry innovation, the commercial radio industry is back on top of its game, and I am delighted that the RAB’s role and contribution to the sector’s on-going return to growth has been recognised in these prestigious awards."
