Radio 2 compiles best live music moments

As part of its 2DAY celebrations, BBC Radio 2 has launched an online vote for listeners to choose their favourite Radio 2 live music moments from the past 10 years.

2DAY, on Wednesday 22 June, will see the station celebrate everything the station has to offer for 12 hours.

Ten of Radio 2’s music DJs have chosen their favourite live session track from the network’s archive of performances. Listeners can hear the presenters’ top 10 shortlist and then vote for their favourite online till 7pm on Tuesday 21 June.

The presenters who have selected their most memorable music moment are Mike Harding, Aled Jones, Frank Renton, Bob Harris, Clare Teal, Janice Long, Jamie Cullum, Dermot O’Leary, Simon Mayo and Jo Whiley. The performances include Richard Thompson, Sugarland, Camera Obscura, Primal Scream and Amy Winehouse, alongside the best orchestras and bands in the world.

On choosing Sugarland’s Tonight track, Bob Harris says: “The session was recorded the day after the Radio 2 Folk Awards … Jennifer Nettles delivered one of the greatest vocal performances that I’ve heard live, ever”.

Al Booth, 2DAY Executive Producer says: “Live music and the more specialist music genres are an intrinsic part of Radio 2’s success and will be an important part of 2DAY. To be able to play the likes of Sugarland and Gregory Porter in the daytime and to engage with our listeners in choosing their favourite live moment from such an eclectic mix really captures the essence of the day – to showcase and celebrate the networks hidden gems”.

Richard Allinson will countdown the top 10 music moments as voted for by the Radio 2 listeners in his special 2DAY show, Moments 2 Remember, on BBC Radio 2 at 1pm on Wednesday 22 June.
