The decision on how much investigation will take place over Global Radio’s takeover of GMG Radio is expected by the end of next week.
Both Ofcom and the OFT have confirmed to RadioToday.co.uk that they submitted their reports on the merger on time – with Ofcom reporting on the issue of plurality and the OFT providing recommendations on competition grounds.
Both reports will be made public after the Secretary of State makes her decision on whether or not to refer the matter to the Competition Commission.
It has been confirmed by Global Radio that the takeover will be reviewed by the Competition Commission as they originally requested in July. The question now is will the investigation be single or dual track, depending on the Secretary of State’s decision.
The Department for Culture Media and Sport told RadioToday.co.uk we’ll know Maria Miller’s decision within 10 working days.
