Simon Bates started his new breakfast show on BBC Radio Devon Monday, complete with new jingles for the old Golden Hour feature.
Sung jingles are not part of the branding on BBC local radio but Simon has had a few sung just for him, by his former Smooth Radio colleague Pat Sharp.
Pat’s production company Sharpsell produced the new idents. He told RadioToday: “Simon Bates is well known for the phrase ‘but what’s the year’? So here at Sharpsell London we thought it best to start the New Year with a brand new package for a brand new (yet still quite old) Golden Hour feature.
“We crafted a package for the Golden Hour on BBC Radio Devon staying true to the sound of the station for the new Simon Bates breakfast show. The result was a new Golden Hour that has a real Sharpsell sound for the BBC.”
Simon Bates left Smooth Radio almost 12 months ago and it was announced last month he would be joining the BBC.
“Now all we can do is hope that it’s a match for the quality of Simon’s dulcet tones. Wish us luck!,” Pat added.
Simon Bates is on-air weekdays 6:30am till 10am on BBC Radio Devon.
