5 live’s Saturday sport coverage moved to DAB

BBC Radio 5 live, in reaction to the Paris Attacks, moved all planned sports coverage on Saturday to 5 live Sports Extra on Saturday.

The move enabled the station to continue rolling news coverage of the incidents of Friday night in France, advising listeners to listen to ‘Sports Extra’ for regular programmes.

Danny Baker and the Fighting Talk show was dropped on Saturday morning, then 5 live Sport started on its digital-only sister station in the afternoon.

On 5 live, Chris Warburton and Eleanor Oldroyd presented a rolling-news Saturday breakfast, then Rachel Burden hosted 1000 – 1300, Adrian Goldberg took over at 1300 till 1600 then Sarah Brett presented 1600 – 1900. Stephen Nolan continued coverage at 1900 till midnight.

Anna Foster and Nick Garnett also kept listeners up-to-date from Paris.

On the evening of the horrific attacks, Stephen Nolan was hosting his regular Friday evening programme, but started the show 45 minutes early, as the breaking news unfolded. Content included eye witness reports and regular breaking news updates.

The station is also continuing to provide extra news programmes today.
