New radio station joins DAB targeting Southport

A radio station based in Southport is joining the MuxCo Wrexham, Chester and Liverpool multiplex.

Sandgrounder Radio has been set up by Andy Hilbert and Neil Newton and has a team of local radio presenters including Rob Charles, Mick Ord and Debi Jones.

The DAB multiplex transmits from Wrexham-Rhos, Moel-Y-Parc and St. John’s Beacon – home of Radio City’s four stations – and officially covers most of the Southport area.

The service will be featuring local news, views, sport and a ‘great variety of music’ from the past six decades.

Director and CEO Andy Hilbert said “We’re thrilled to be bringing this exciting radio station to the airwaves. We have two ultimate goals with this project. One of which is to bring local radio back to Southport, the other is to put Southport on the map, showing the rest of Merseyside, the North West and North East Wales what a fabulous seaside town this is.

“We’re working with great local people and superb businesses across the area, as well as working closely with the Trinity Mirror Group which lead the way with local news for the Town with their Southport Visiter publication and have done so since the 1800s. We can’t wait to get started”.

The station will be based in the centre of Town, working from within Anthony James Estate Agents’ new business complex on Hoghton Street.

Sandgrounder Radio will be announcing their official line-up and launch date within the next few weeks.
