Wire FM backs Warrington City of Culture bid

Wire FM is backing Warrington’s bid to be awarded the title of UK City of Culture 2021.

The station serves Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn from Wigan, and says there a buzz around town about the bid. It is asking listeners to be part of the bid and help shape the bid by offering ‘I’m Backing The Bid’ car stickers.

Wire FM Station Director Steve South: “As a local radio station that is proud to be local, we’re delighted to be backing Warrington’s bid. The whole team are excited and there’s a real buzz around the town. Warrington is a very exciting place to be and there are lots of exciting plans for the UK City of Culture bid. If successful, the economic and social benefit will be significant.”

UK City of Culture was established in 2009 following Liverpool’s successful year of European Capital of Culture in 2008. If successful, Warrington will have the chance to highlight its cultural past and grow its cultural offering.

The initial bid will be submitted by the end of April and the winner announced in Hull in December.
