As expected, Ulster Television is to scrap the name ‘The Wireless Group’ in favour of a more fitting name – UTV Radio.
UTV bought The Wireless Group, which includes TalkSport and 16 local radio stations earlier this year for £98.2m. Each local station such as Stoke’s Signal (1&2) and Swansea Sound will keep their own identity.
UTV Radio Managing Director Scott Taunton said: “Given the strength of the UTV brand we felt it more appropriate that The Wireless Group was renamed UTV Radio for corporate purposes.
“Feedback from the market confirmed that there was no real value in keeping The Wireless Group name, however each of our radio stations will retain its strong local identity.”
