300 enter hospital awards

This years National Hospital Radio Awards will take place on Saturday 31st March at the Park Hotel in Northampton, as part of the HBA's Spring Conference. This year the awards have attracted nearly 300 entries from stations across the UK.

There are 9 categories each being sponsored. The sponsors include BBC Radio
2, GCap, IRN, PPL, The Radio Academy and PSquared. The short list of each category can be found on the [link=http://www.hbauk.com]HBA website[/link].

Dave Nicholson, the organiser of the awards told RadioToday.co.uk: "Once again we have had more entries than previous years. Five years ago when I took over we had just over 100 entries and each year it has gone up with 289 this year."

A panel of judges all working in the media and drawn from across the country
will spend the next three weeks judging the awards. One of the judges is Roy Martin, Station Producer at 100.4 Smooth FM: "I attended many HR Awards during my time at hospital radio, so when I was asked to be a judge I had no hesitation. I'm looking forward to hearing the many talents and skills of volunteers from around the country".

The winners will be announced at the awards show on the 31st March hosted by Media Consultant Paul Robinson and BBC Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood. Each category will be presented by a guest and will be broadcast via the internet and on the Hotbird satellite, courtesy of WRN. This allows hospital radio stations to broadcast the show live.

The winning stations received crystal glass trophies and cash prizes.
