Hospital Radio entries wanted

The closing date for the National Hospital Broadcasting Awards 2008 is less than a week away, and event organisers are encouraging stations to submit their entries. This year the ceremony will include two new categories.

As previously reported on Radio Today, for the first time the Unsung Hero Award is being added, aiming to highlight the hard work carried out by volunteers behind the scenes of hospital radio stations across the UK.

The Special Award will also be included a category this year, with nominations accepted for an individual, a team or an event that sums up all that's good and unique about Hospital Broadcasting.

The Hospital Broadcasting Association's Yorkshire Regional representative Iain Lee has taken on the mantle of organising the competition, while the Lincs FM Group's Director of News and Scunthorpe Hospital Radio member Sean Dunderdale is to produce the award ceremony. Rookwood Sound's Sybil Fowler and Warwick Corporate Events is providing technical support and staging at the ceremony, taking place at the prestigious Queens Hotel in March next year.

Judges this year include Sunday Times Radio Reviewer Paul Donovan, BBC Radio 2's Phil Hughes, IRN's Jon Godel, Ofcom's Will Jackson and Jon Heasman, Lincs FM Group's Chief Executive Michael Betton, Heart's Paul Hayes, BBC Sport's Harry Gration and Labour's Vice-Chairman and former Hospital Radio presenter Ian Cawsey MP.

The closing date for all entries is Saturday December 15th. The address is: National Hospital Radio Awards, PO Box 331, Scunthorpe, DN15 5BU. More details and an entry form can be found [link=http://www.hbauk.co.uk]online[/link].
