Made in Manchester Productions has won its first-ever commission for the Radio 4 Archive Hour strand, marking the indie's 2nd project for the network.
Veteran political journalist John Sergeant will team up with veteran politician Tony Benn for Giving Way to a New Era – a trawl through some of the most momentous speeches and debates of the past three decades.
Ordered by outgoing Radio 4 commissioning editor Mohit Bakaya, the programme will air at 8pm on Saturday April 5th.
Made in Manchester Productions’ creative director Ashley Byrne told RadioToday.co.uk: “It’s hard to believe we’ve only been hearing Prime Minister’s Question Time on a regular basis for 30 years. Before April 1978, what happened in parliament was delivered to us third hand through political commentators."
Giving Way to a New Era is being produced by Rosemary Foxcroft and is Made in Manchester’s second commission for BBC Radio 4. It follows the success of the award-winning documentary I Got Up Out of My Seat in which Sir David Frost examined the legacy of the American evangelist Billy Graham.
