BBC Jersey's John Uphoff dies

BBC Radio Jersey's Breakfast presenter [link=https://radiotoday.co.uk/user.php?id.1748]John Uphoff[/link] has died in hospital following a short illness, aged 46.
The presenter enjoyed a long career in commercial radio before joining BBC station in 2002.

Uphoff became unwell last month when he was diagnosed with abdominal pains. Subsequently these were identified as pancreatitis, meningitis, encephalitis and listerial blood poisoning.
He died in the care of the staff of the Neurological Intensive Care Unit in Southampton, to where he was airlifted two weeks ago.
His broadcasting career began in 1978, when he became a presenter on a student radio station.
He subsequently worked for the commercial broadcasters Pennine Radio and The Pulse in West Yorkshire, Viking Radio in Hull and Channel 103 here in Jersey.
He joined BBC Jersey in 2002 to present the Saturday Show, taking on responsibility for the weekday morning show the following year.
