GMG Radio goes Inside Iraq

Smooth, Century, Real and Rock Radio, all owned by GMG, are set to run a week of special news programmes this week called Inside Iraq, with reporter Amy Lea in Basra.

GMG Radio says Amy became the first British radio journalist to wander free through the streets of Basra, during a recent eight day trip to the front line in Iraq.
Amy, who is 23 years old and in her second year as a reporter, was chosen and said the trip was the opportunity of a lifetime for a journalist. “It was an incredible experience. I felt so lucky to go to Iraq and it’s great to be part of a commercial radio group that’s investing in this sort of original journalism.”
GMG Radio’s Group Head of News James Rea said: “This was our biggest assignment yet and will result in a fantastic week of compelling programmes and a one-off documentary for our stations. At GMG Radio we are always trying to push the boundaries of what the commercial radio sector provides in terms of its news coverage. It proves that excellent reporting opportunities don’t just have to be the domain of the BBC.”
