Bob Harris targets BBC Radio 2 return after treatments

Bob Harris is aiming to return to his BBC Radio 2 shows next month, despite his cancer spreading.

The presenter says he is recovering at home after radiotherapy and rehab following the discovery that his prostate cancer had spread to his upper spine.

In an update shared with listeners, Bob said the past few weeks had been “an extremely testing time” after he was admitted to hospital with severe back pain.

Further scans found the cancer in his upper spine, and he then began a course of radiotherapy which kept him in hospital for two weeks.

Bob said he is now “feeling stronger every day” and has started a rehabilitation programme.

He also said he had been able to get outside in the sunshine for the first time, with his son taking the photograph shared alongside the post.

He thanked his family for helping him through one of the hardest periods of his life, and also praised Helen Thomas and the BBC Radio 2 team for their support. Bob said he hopes to be back on Country by mid May and on Sounds of the 70s by the end of May.

He also thanked listeners who had sent messages after the conversations he and Zoe Ball recorded for his 80th birthday programme.
