GMG Radio stops the Rock

Rock Radio in the north east has become the latest UK radio station to close, replaced by the output of Rock Radio in Manchester.

In Ofcom's latest radio update, the news appeared as one of the multiplex Format changes during the last month. The regulator has allowed owners GMG Radio, which owns Real Radio and Smooth Radio in the region, to replace "Rock Radio Digital with the output of the Rock Radio Manchester service".
Rock Radio broadcasts in Glasgow on the former Q96 frequency, and in Manchester on 106.1. Until recently a stand-alone 24 hour service was provided to the north east since its launch just 12 months ago.
