London licences up for grabs

Ofcom is inviting applications for licences to provide community radio services within Greater London and other areas within the M25. The closing date for applications is 15 September.

There are two FM frequencies with limited range available as well as what the media regulator refers to as a small number of suitable AM frequencies.
The first community radio station was launched in the UK in November 2005. Since then, Ofcom has licensed almost two hundred stations in total. The media regulator is currently considering 43 licence applications from the southeast of England – excluding the round of applications detailed above.
