Steve Martin heads to Africa

BBC World Service on-air Editor Steve Martin is joining the Africa and Middle East Business Development team as Business Development Manager – West and Southern Africa.

Steve will take on responsibility for protecting and growing English, Hausa and Portuguese audiences in some of the BBC World Service's biggest markets, including Africa's biggest English market Nigeria.
Simon Kendall, Head Of Business Development for Africa and Middle East says: "We are delighted to have secured somebody of Steve's calibre to develop our presence in these crucial markets."
Steve has worked as a BBC editor since 2002 where he has been responsible for promotions, navigation and the on air identity of the English World Service. During this time he also connected with African FM partners through training he helped develop and deliver in Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria.
In 2004 Steve was seconded to BBC World News for a year as Project Director. Previously, he led the radio department at BBC Broadcast Ltd (now Red Bee Media) and has also worked in Network radio and BBC Scotland. His first BBC job involved making sound effects for The Archers.
